Release note for ASCE 3.5.30
Public release date: 2-Apr-2007
ASCE 3.5.30 is the 2nd maintenance release for ASCE 3.5. It is highly
recommended as an upgrade for all users who have installed ASCE 3.5 on their
machines, and is now the currently supported version of ASCE.
It includes a number of bug fixes and performance enhancements (see below for
full details). A summary of the main changes is as follows:
- Reliability improvements, fixing sporadic application crashes when
closing ASCE down, or closing the table view.
- Better handling of markup characters (<, >, &) in status fields,
in Internet style URLs, in the
display on node titles and during export.
- Various fixes to allow ASCE to successfully open very old (pre ASCE 1.5)
.act files.
- Performance improvements for the birds eye view when working with large
networks.
- Performance improvement - a new Node Editor user option, whereby an
update of a node from the node editor in a large network does not require the
whole network to also be saved to disk (although this is still the default). This is now a user option on the
node editor under View->Options menu in the node editor.
-
Full installer updated so that necessary libraries are in place for running on
Windows NT4 SP6a.
- Updated arrangement macros 0.1.xml plugin, so that selecting a subtree now
selects links as well.
-
Verification of links to files now also checks changes to the save date
as well as file length.
-
Updated plugins available to supported customers (asce node mapping v0.2.xml
and one click export v0.1.xml (Available to supported ASCE Enterprise customers only)
Installation
To install ASCE 3.5.30 two options are available:
- Install a patch (~2 Mb download) which updates only the necessary
files, and requires ASCE 3.5 to already be installed on the target machine:
ASCE_3.5.30_patch.zip (unzip and run the installation executable).
- Install using the full installer (~28 Mb download). This is
necessary for machines that do not yet have ASCE installed, or if you wish
to do a fresh install. To install this you may need to uninstall previous
versions of ASCE that may be installed on the target machine.
Download ASCE 3.5.30 full installer
Select and download the appropriate installer, and run it to install ASCE
3.5.30. Depending on your configuration, you may need to be an Administrator to
be able to successfully install ASCE 3.5.30 on the target machine.
If you are already licensed to use ASCE 3.5, you will not need to obtain
another release key. ASCE 3.5.30 should work on your machine without requiring a
new license.

restrictions), please contact office@adelard.com and we can send you the
full installation media.

Changes made in ASCE 3.5.30
The following bug fixes and changes were made in ASCE 3.5.30
(2nd maintenance release)
- Sporadic windows level application crash on closing table view.
- Sporadic windows level application crash on closing application.
- Closing ASCE could occasionally leave a "zombie" ASCE process running.
- Ampersands (& characters) were not displayed on nodes, and
in many of the dynamic menus and labels across the GUI.
- Birds eye view could crash for very large networks, and fit to
window button could crash ASCE when fitting large network
to very small window.
- Very old .ACT files (created pre ASCE 1.5) did not open.
- ASCE very slow to start up when loading information from
user profile stored on network drive.
- Certain networks did not open, due to HTMLTidy issues.
- Image collection not available to plugins.
- ASCE could be very slow to update when saving node in larger networks
due to obligation to save the whole network (this is now a user
option under View->Options on the Node editor). The default for this option is
on, which results in unchanged behaviour from previous versions (on saving a
node, the whole network is saved to disk).
- Major performance improvements when birds eye view is shown
on larger networks.
- Fixed bug whereby network with with markup characters (<>&) in
status fields would cause problems after loading or during export
to HTML.
- Improved show multiple nodes in context (e.g. from structure
checking window, or from userview window File menu item).
- Removed spurious error messages when required schema not
found. Instead the usual friendly message to contact the author
to obtain the required schema is the only message shown.
- Full installer updated so that necessary libraries are in place for running
on Windows NT4 SP6a.
- Fix to bug whereby Internet style URLs containing
ampersands ("&" characters) in
could become broken due to a lack of unescaping of "&" sequences within
the link editor widget.
- Improvement of file link validation routine - changes to file save date
are now also checked as well as changes to file length.
-
Updated arrangement macros 0.1.xml plugin, so that selecting a subtree now
selects links as well.
-
Updated asce node mapping v0.2.xml plugin, so that images from
remote networks are imported into local ASCE file when importing remote
content.
(Available to supported ASCE Enterprise customers only)
-
Updated one click export v0.1.xml to improve working with in house MS
Word templates. (Available to supported ASCE Enterprise customers only)
ASCE 3.5.15 (30-Nov-2006)
ASCE 3.5.30 also incorporates changes made in the first maintenance release
of ASCE 3.5, 3.5.15. These are listed below for information purposes.
30-Nov-2006 ASCE 3.5.15 1st maintenance release is
released, fixing a number of minor bugs:
- Some very old .act files created by ASCE 1.5 could
not be correctly opened and saved as .axml
- Embedded images containing spaces were not shown
correctly
- Double clicking on an ASCE file occasionally would
not load, generating a runtime error 91
- On Win2k and later, the ASCE installer generated an
error message about not being able to install
vbscript.dll
- In the export path window whilst in manual
attachment mode, underlying links were incorrectly
attached to nodes top most corner, rather than the
defined attachment point
Updates to plugins:
- ASCE node mapping plugin did not always
show available headings in remote node. Also traceable
statement text could become corrupted
- Basic Access and Excel plugin now allows
use of ODBC connections instead of specifying a file,
providing increased flexibility. Also fixed bug whereby
a long SQL expression could become corrupted.
Updated ASCE Browser:
- Fixed bug whereby some larger networks exhibited
jerky and unusual zooming behaviour at large zoom scales
